Looking for Covid Rapid Antibody testing in Edinburgh?
Now that it has been over a year since the start of the pandemic, we know that you may be anxious or curious about whether you have had the virus or not. If this sounds like you, there is no need to worry – Newington Pharmacy are here to help you. We offer Covid Rapid Antibody testing in Edinburgh to put your mind at ease, at the prick of a finger.
What is Rapid Antibody testing?
Covid Rapid Antibody testing consists of a blood test, which detects whether your body has developed an immune response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Covid-19). Essentially, this test determines whether you have ever come into contact with the virus through the presence of antibodies, or lack thereof. Specifically, the antibody test is designed to locate both IgG and IgM antibodies. IgG antibodies will appear in response to an established immune reaction. In contrast, IgM antibodies occur in response to an acute immune response.
When should I have an Antibody test?
In order to produce the most accurate results, you should have an antibody test between 14 and 21 days following your first symptoms.
It is important to note that this type of testing is not used to detect the presence of an active Covid infection. Although the antibody test does have a limited capacity to detect a current covid infection, we would recommend a PCR test to determine an active infection with the virus.
In the event that you receive a positive test result, this means that you have previously had the virus. A negative result suggests that you have not yet been infected with the virus.
Please Note: We are as yet unaware about whether a previous infection offers you immunity from the virus. Therefore, there is a chance that you could be infected again; so it is imperative that you still adhere to current Government guidelines.
