PCR ON-SITE TESTING (£155) –Use the booking calendar below
RT PCR stands for Reverse Transcriptase or Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction.
PCR tests are designed to diagnose individuals with an active infection (those infected with SARS COV-2), the virus that causes COVID-19.
Unlike antibody tests which detect the presence of antibodies produced by the body’s immune system in response to the virus and indicate the previous infection, PCR tests detect the virus’s genetic material – specifically RNA fragments, and are used to diagnose a current infection.
It is a simple process that only takes a few minutes but can be done incorrectly.
The sampling process involves taking an oropharyngeal swab (a swab of the throat and tonsils area) and a nasopharyngeal swab (a swab of both nostrils) all using the same swab.
Newington Pharmacy has a Specialist COVID-19 Response Technician who can take the sample for you with minimum fuss and take the anxiety and concern out of the process.
We can also assist with the registering of the test kit in order to receive the RT PCR test certificate.
The swab tests we use are from UKAS and ISO accredited laboratories.
The results certificate obtained contains patient details, time of the report, time and date of test conducted, passport number as well as the result of the test.
Turnaround time for results is 24-36h upon receipt of the sample at the lab.
