After months of research, the COVID vaccine rollout in Edinburgh is imminent. We are pleased to announce that we will be offering the vaccine in store to help keep our Edinburgh community safe. However, you may be wondering when your age group will receive the vaccine. This is determined by the JCVI (the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation); their plan will set out the strategy for rolling out vaccinations to 4.5 million people in Scotland.
Is the covid vaccine safe?
Extensive testing has revealed that the vaccine is safe and effective, offering you the best possible protection. In order to be approved for use, vaccines must meet guidelines set out by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency). The coronavirus vaccine is no exception to this, as it must go through the same clinical trials and safety checks as others. You can find more information regarding the safety of the vaccine on the NHS website.
Who can receive the vaccine now?
A widespread COVID vaccine rollout is imminent; this will happen in stages. The NHS is currently offering the vaccine to those who are vulnerable and most at-risk from the virus. This includes those who are aged 80 years and over, some who are aged 70 or over, and some people who are clinically vulnerable. They are also offering the vaccination to those who live and work in care homes, as well as health and social care workers.
Please note: You must be registered with a GP surgery in order to get your vaccine. You should register with a GP if you have not already done so.
When will I get the vaccine?
The COVID vaccine rollout in Edinburgh is imminent on a more widespread scale. For now, the most vulnerable are being prioritised to maximise their safety. Vaccination for other groups will commence as soon as the supply becomes available. You may be wondering when the vaccine will reach you; this is clarified within the JVCI priority guidelines. These state that the order of priority for the coronavirus vaccination is as follows:
Residents who are in a care home for older adults, as well as their carers.
Those who are 80 years of age and over, and frontline health and social care workers.
People who are 75 years of age and over.
All those who are 70 years of age and over, as well as clinically vulnerable individuals.
People who are 65 years of age and over.
Individuals with underlying health conditions that put them at a higher risk aged 16 years to 64 years old.
All those 60 years of age and over.
People who are 55 years of age and over.
All those 50 years of age and over.
